Smoky Quartz
Smoky quartz appears in a range of soft, subtle colors including gentle yellowish brown, rich chocolate, dark charcoal brown, and nearly black. The stone is sometimes named after the Cairngorn and Morion mining areas in Scotland, which produce smoky quartz. It also is commonly referred to Smoky Topaz, in an effort to associate it with the more valuable topaz and thus increase its price. Smoky Quartz is believed to promote positive, pragmatic thought and to give clear insight and neutralize fear of failure. Unusually fine specimens come from the Swiss Alps and in the US, Pike's Peak, Colorado, and parts of North Carolina, but can commonly be found around the world.
