Abalone
Abalone or Mother-of-Pearl comes from the Paua Shell (the abalone mollusk) and has a stunning blue-green iridescent color play, which is why it is commonly referred to as Sea Opal. Paua shell cannot be carved into beads, but is cut into double-sided flat beads, low cabochons, and slabs for inlay work. Abalone is abundant and can be found in warm seas worldwide.
