Eight floors. 50,000 square feet. “A monster megaplex” featuring shop-in-shops by the likes of Alexander Wang, Boy by Band of Outsiders, D.A.P. Books, Other Music, Trash & Vaudeville, and The Row. Welcome to Opening Ceremony, Japan. The store OC founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim have built in the heart of Tokyo’s Shibuya shopping district is no effing joke, to put it bluntly. Opening on the 30th, the store features “all the classic Opening Ceremony product,” as Leon says, plus a bevy of launch exclusives, the aforementioned shop-in-shops, plus a few others, and a restaurant called Potluck that’s about to make “brunch” trendy in Japan. “We wanted to focus on the experience as much as the merchandise,” Leon explains. “Every floor has its own point of view. Going through the store is kind of like getting a tour of American architecture throughout the ages—like, the first floor is Santa Fe/Southwestern, then there’s a floor referencing sixties modernist architecture, and another one that’s seventies hippie…” There is also, Leon notes, a floor made to look like a typical American office. Those cubicles ought to make an interesting backdrop for the Opening Ceremony opening bash, at which Strokes-man Julian Casablancas will be playing songs off his forthcoming solo LP. The party’s not until the 29th, so there’s still plenty of time to book a flight.

Camille Miceli is one of those Parisian girls who gets it right every time with seemingly zero effort or contrivance. At last night’s opening of Nike and Lance Armstrong’s Stages art show to benefit cancer research at the Emmanuel Perrotin gallery, the creative director of LV’s jewelry pumped up the volume on her sheer black ensemble with not one, not two, but three matching electric green accessories: a pair of aviators, thin oversized hoops, and a watch. (That’s not even mentioning the KAWS painting behind her.) What do you think? A bright moment of je ne sais quoi or should she have followed the old fashion chestnut and taken off at least one accessory before leaving the house?

Is it possible to fall in love with a store? Like, to love it so much you’d actually marry it, if you could? Reformation, open as of May on the Lower East Side, is a store many girls will want to take as a bride. The brainchild of YAYA designer Yael Aflalo and her former designer Chi Bui, Reformation specializes in remade vintage—a concept that’s been around for a while, but not quite like this. Aflalo and Bui are, for the most part, thrift-shopping for fabrics: deadstock textiles, leftovers from designers’ collections, naff old looks in a great material. Then, in essence, they start from scratch, re-patterning and sewing up stuff that’s bang-on trend and looks like it should cost a lot more than it does. Think leather-paneled bike shorts, bias-cut silk tanks, strong-shouldered lace minidresses. Aflalo works out of the back of the Ludlow Street storefront; Bui out of the Reformation boutique that opened in Los Angeles this past September. Most pieces come in multiple sizes and the store will alter anything that doesn’t quite fit. In short: Marry me. “For me, it’s a green thing,” Aflalo explains of her inspiration in launching the new brand. “There’s so much stuff out there already, why buy anything new? Some pieces we find, the look is kind of there. Other times, we’re starting from zero. What I like,” she adds, “is being able to make pieces I want to wear right now. Nothing too complex, just the kind of thing you’re always going to have room for in your wardrobe.” I do.

The theme of the debut sale is “Revisiting the ’80’s,” and it features work from designers including Christian Lacroix, Yves Saint Laurent, Ugo Correani for Gianni Versace, and Karl Lagerfeld, who defined the decade that is fashion’s current fixation.

Michael Jackson’s death sent his fans on a buying spree—record stores have reported running out of Jackson albums, and almost three million downloads of the Gloved One’s singles had been recorded as of the end of last week. Fashion is feeling the Jackson effect, too. The Repetto shop in Paris has seen a huge uptick in sales of its Jackson jazz shoe, a pared-down patent leather loafer that comes in white or black. (Or ebony and ivory, if you prefer.) The kicks happen to be on-trend—loafers are staging a quiet comeback for Fall—and they’ll be all the moonwalking rage tomorrow, when Jackson’s funeral blows out L.A.’s Staples Center. White socks optional.

Headlining Roskilde: Coldplay, Kanye West, And Designer Henrik Vibskov

The Brits have Glastonbury; the Danes have Roskilde. Drummer-slash-designer Henrik Vibskov will be upping the festival’s fashion quotient this weekend with a pop-up store (I know, we’ve sworn them off, but this one’s different; it’s at a music festival!) that will sell “limited hand-picked samples from previous collections at friendly prices.” Runway darling Agnete Hegelund will be there—rain or shine. Her boyfriend’s band Mew is performing. “I’ll be wearing my least expensive clothes because they get totally dirty,” she explained. If they do, maybe she can snag some of Vibskov’s priced-to-sell designs.
