With Diddy rapping, “Come on, let’s do it for the people, baby,” how could it not? Speaking of music, we hear that the Rodarte sisters have recruited the drag queen Justin Bond, a.k.a. Kiki of Kiki & Herb, to perform at their personal appearance at Barneys. It seems as if every square foot of the Madison Avenue store will be covered with designers, models, and showbiz types, but in particular we’re looking forward to catching the premiere of Coco Rocha’s “Fashionista” video, dropping by the Alabama Chanin sewing circle, and getting our copy of the new book Isabel Toledo, Fashion From the Inside Out, signed by the woman herself. New Longchamp Collabs Mark 20 Years Of ANDAM

A chic doughnut-shaped, caramel leather bangle that turns into a Longchamp Le Pliage tote (pictured at left) is a boon to anyone still working out the logistics of the whole reusable-shopping-bag thing. And for that convertible convenience, you have Bless designers Desiree Heiss and Ines Kaag to thank. The Bless bag for Longchamp is part of a trio of new Le Pliage totes that the brand is launching in celebration of the 20th anniversary of ANDAM, the Association Nationale pour le Développement des Arts de la Mode. ANDAM promotes emerging French and international fashion talent, and three of the recent winners of the annual ANDAM Award have been recruited for the collaboration: longtime Longchamp tricker-outer Jeremy Scott, U.K.-based It girl favorite Charles Anastase, and the aforementioned Bless. The bags come out October 1 and will be available at Longchamp stores worldwide as well as at a selection of boutiques.

Is it possible to fall in love with a store? Like, to love it so much you’d actually marry it, if you could? Reformation, open as of May on the Lower East Side, is a store many girls will want to take as a bride. The brainchild of YAYA designer Yael Aflalo and her former designer Chi Bui, Reformation specializes in remade vintage—a concept that’s been around for a while, but not quite like this. Aflalo and Bui are, for the most part, thrift-shopping for fabrics: deadstock textiles, leftovers from designers’ collections, naff old looks in a great material. Then, in essence, they start from scratch, re-patterning and sewing up stuff that’s bang-on trend and looks like it should cost a lot more than it does. Think leather-paneled bike shorts, bias-cut silk tanks, strong-shouldered lace minidresses. Aflalo works out of the back of the Ludlow Street storefront; Bui out of the Reformation boutique that opened in Los Angeles this past September. Most pieces come in multiple sizes and the store will alter anything that doesn’t quite fit. In short: Marry me. “For me, it’s a green thing,” Aflalo explains of her inspiration in launching the new brand. “There’s so much stuff out there already, why buy anything new? Some pieces we find, the look is kind of there. Other times, we’re starting from zero. What I like,” she adds, “is being able to make pieces I want to wear right now. Nothing too complex, just the kind of thing you’re always going to have room for in your wardrobe.” I do.

If our exclusive with 1stdibs.com wasn’t temptation enough, tomorrow marks Yoox.com’s first installment of themed jewelry sales, featuring the 5,000-plus piece collection of vintage and costume jewelry expert Deanna Farneti Cera. The theme of the debut sale is “Revisiting the ’80’s,” and it features work from designers including Christian Lacroix, Yves Saint Laurent, Ugo Correani for Gianni Versace, and Karl Lagerfeld, who defined the decade that is fashion’s current fixation.

Camilla Stærk Introduces Stærk SIGNATURE

Nobody’s particularly enjoying the Great Recession, but among its silver linings is the fact that several designers have seen fit to introduce collections of their best-selling staple items. Camilla Stærk is the latest to get in on the act: On Thursday, she’ll be giving buyers a look-see at her Stærk SIGNATURE line, a recurring range of items such as the Stærk racer-back tank (available in stretch leather and liquid jersey) and peak-waisted pencil skirt (in leather and super-matte cotton-Lycra). The plan, according to Stærk, is to keep the seasonal collections to an edit of eight garments and one, maybe two accessories, and for now, she’s sticking to her trademark black palette. “At some point, I’d like to do pieces like the tank, or the jersey tee, in black and white versions of my archive prints,” Stærk explains. “But to start out, I’m keeping SIGNATURE really simple, and just bringing back the pieces people are always asking me for.” The first Stærk SIGNATURE collection will be in stores at the end of November; the second collection arrives next summer. Here’s hoping that by then, the Great Recession will be over—leaving only silver linings.
